The study buddy project aims to promote learners to participate
in group study sessions. Parental
involvement will play a vital role to facilitate this process. Parents will initially play the role of the
study buddy to assist their children with studying. Peers will later on take over the role.
Here are a few suggestions after the meeting on the 21st
of June 2012:
·
Modality tests should be executed to classify
learners according to their style of learning in terms of visual, auditory or kinaesthetic. Learners can be grouped according to their
style of learning, geographical area and compatibility with peers.
·
2 Sessions of parent empowerment training will
take place on Saturdays during next term.
The first session will contain theory and modality tests. Application of knowledge will take place in
the second sessions and learners are required to bring their actual study
material along.
·
A meeting will be held at the beginning of next
term to gain consensus amongst team members of what the content of the parent
empowerment session will involve.
·
A structure will be put together on how the
study buddy system will be implemented.
·
It was recommended that learners get assigned
with peer study buddies as well as mentors (learners from higher grades) to
assist with study and learning.
·
SMS / Email communication trees can be designed
for parents to serve as a support network.
